Meals are included in the daily program at Tamarac Senior Center. Members who attend receive breakfast, lunch, and snacks during the hours they are at the center, from 8 AM to 4 PM, Monday to Saturday. Food is served on a set schedule in a shared dining area, so members eat regular meals in the company of others rather than alone at home. For families, this means a parent has consistent, supervised nutrition throughout the day without anyone at home needing to shop, cook, or check that meals were eaten.

What is included

  • Breakfast. Served in the morning after members arrive, so the day starts with a full meal.
  • Lunch. A midday meal served in the shared dining area.
  • Snacks. Light snacks between meals to keep energy and hydration steady through the day.
  • Balanced meals. Meals are planned to provide regular, well-rounded nutrition across the week rather than repeating the same items each day.
  • Common dietary needs. Staff can accommodate common dietary needs when they are shared with us in advance. Let the center know at enrollment so meals can be planned accordingly.

Who it is for

  • Seniors who live alone. Members who might otherwise skip meals or eat inconsistently at home have set meal times built into the day.
  • Families managing a parent's day. Adult children who work during the day can be sure a parent is eating regular meals without arranging food themselves.
  • Members on Long Term Care coverage. For many members, the day program including meals is covered through a Medicaid Long Term Care plan. Call the center to check how your coverage applies.

Why it matters

  • Nutrition and appetite. Appetite and interest in cooking often decline with age, which can lead to skipped meals and poor nutrition over time. Set meal times keep intake regular.
  • Hydration. The sense of thirst tends to fade with age, so dehydration is a common and often overlooked risk. Meals and snacks throughout the day include regular chances to drink.
  • Dining with others. Sharing a table is part of the value. Eating with other people tends to support a better appetite and adds regular social contact to the day, which matters for members who live alone.
