Tamarac Senior Center is a licensed adult day center in Broward County. Adults 60 and older spend the day in a supervised setting that includes meals, wellness activities, and door to door transportation. The center runs Monday through Saturday, from 8 AM to 4 PM. Our program is bilingual, with staff who speak both English and Spanish, since about 70 percent of our members speak Spanish. This page explains what an adult day center is, who we serve, how our program works, and how Long Term Care coverage fits in.

What an adult day center is

An adult day center is a licensed program where older adults come during the day and return home in the evening. It is not a nursing home and not assisted living. Members keep living at home, then spend structured daytime hours in a staffed, supervised setting. For a working family, this fills the gap during the hours when no one is available to be with an aging parent. A daughter or son can go to work knowing their parent is somewhere safe, fed, and engaged, rather than home alone. For the senior, the day is built around activity and contact with other people instead of long stretches of isolation. At Tamarac Senior Center, a typical day includes breakfast, lunch, and snacks, exercise and wellness sessions, social and health programs, games and recreation, and time for beauty and self-care. Door to door transportation brings members to the center in the morning and takes them home in the afternoon, so the family does not have to arrange rides.

Who we serve

We serve adults 60 and older who live in Tamarac and the surrounding Broward County communities. Members join for different reasons. Some want a regular reason to leave the house, stay active, and be around other people. Others need daytime supervision because they are no longer safe on their own for long stretches. Our program works for members with a range of needs, including those who use a walker or wheelchair or have other mobility limits, and those in the early stages of memory changes who benefit from a predictable routine and attentive staff. Our community is bilingual. About 70 percent of members speak Spanish, and our staff speaks both English and Spanish, so members and families can ask questions and get answers in the language they are most comfortable using.

Who we serve

Our approach

The day follows a set structure rather than open, unfilled hours. Members move through scheduled activities with staff present throughout, which keeps the day predictable and keeps people engaged. Much of the program is health focused. Exercise and wellness sessions keep members moving at a level that fits their ability. Social and health programs, group games, and recreation keep the mind active and give members regular contact with others. Assistance and support are available during the day, along with time for beauty and self-care. We treat members as capable adults. Staff give help where it is needed without taking over, and the tone of the center is respectful and matter of fact. The goal is a real, active day, not a waiting room.

Our approach

Licensing and Long Term Care

Tamarac Senior Center is a licensed adult day center. We accept Long Term Care coverage, and many of our members qualify for the program through a Medicaid Long Term Care plan. In many cases, that coverage pays for the daily program and the included transportation. Coverage and eligibility depend on your specific plan, so the most reliable way to find out what applies to your family is to call us. We can walk you through what Long Term Care covers, help you understand whether a parent may qualify, and explain the enrollment steps. Call (954) 694-1100 or email admin@tamaracseniorcenter.com and we will answer your questions directly.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between an adult day center and a nursing home?
An adult day center is a daytime program. Members come in the morning and go home in the evening, so they keep living at home. A nursing home provides full time residential care. Does Long Term Care cover the cost of the program?
We accept Long Term Care coverage, and many members qualify through a Medicaid Long Term Care plan that helps pay for the daily program and included transportation. What your plan covers depends on your specific coverage, so the clearest way to find out is to call us at (954) 694-1100. We will help you understand your options and the enrollment steps.
